Pakistan has requested an emergency United Nations Security Council session after Israeli strikes in Doha targeted Hamas leaders. The attacks expanded Israel’s military campaign across the Middle East to the Gulf, sparking global alarm. Qatar, which mediated Gaza ceasefire efforts with Egypt, condemned the strikes as cowardly and illegal. Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said the request was made with Somalia and Algeria to address the aggression. He expressed complete solidarity with Qatar and its people in this critical moment.
Meanwhile, Israel defended its actions, declaring its enemies were not safe anywhere. Defence Minister Israel Katz vowed Israel’s military would strike Hamas leaders worldwide. He linked the campaign to Hamas’s October 7, 2023 assault, which started the nearly two-year Gaza war. Israel’s ambassador to Washington stressed that missed targets would be hit again in future attempts. Despite criticism, Israeli officials insisted the decision was right and independent of US approval.
In view of the unprovoked illegal Israeli aggression against the brotherly State of #Qatar, #Pakistan, along with #Algeria and #Somalia, has requested an Emergency meeting of the UN Security Council, to discuss the situation and seize itself of this grave matter. #Pakistan…
The strikes in Doha killed six people, including the son of Hamas negotiator Khalil al-Hayya and a Qatari officer. Hamas confirmed its top leaders survived, calling the attack a failure. The White House said President Trump opposed the strike and warned Qatar late. However, Doha denied receiving timely notice before the bombs hit. Israel’s UN ambassador said the attack targeted Hamas, not Qatar, stressing Israel sometimes acted against US preferences.
The attack deepened regional instability as Israel intensified strikes in Gaza City. A high-rise tower was destroyed after an evacuation warning. Residents were seen searching through rubble as smoke filled the sky. Humanitarian conditions remain catastrophic, with the UN recently declaring famine in Gaza. EU chief Ursula von der Leyen condemned Israel’s actions and suggested sanctions. Israel’s foreign minister accused Europe of strengthening Hamas and destabilizing the region further.
Global criticism has continued, with Russia, China, and even Germany urging new measures. Qatar warned it reserved the right to respond to what it called a pivotal attack. Trump distanced himself, saying he was not informed early and regretted the location of the strike. He described Hamas’s elimination as a worthy goal but stressed Qatar remained a close ally. Meanwhile, Israel’s offensive has killed at least 64,656 Palestinians, mostly civilians, worsening the humanitarian disaster.
