CHITRAL: Speakers at a seminar here on Sunday stressed on the protection of wildlife and the environment. The one-day seminar was organised by the Snow Leopard Foundation in connection with the World Environment Day to turn the attention of the masses towards pressing environmental concerns. Every year environmentalists and activists on the World Environment Day focus on a theme related to environmental and wildlife issues. The theme for 2016 targeted the illegal trade in wildlife as activists struggled to sensitise the masses about the issues faced by the wildlife under the slogan ‘Go Wild for Life’. Speaking on the occasion, District Nazim Maghfirat Shah said that nature had provided all kind of resources for humans on the earth, adding that these resources should be utilised with care. He lauded the services of the Snow Leopard Foundation in protecting the leopards and other wildlife in the district.
Meanwhile, a debate contest was also held among schoolchildren in the district. Salman Azam of the Government High School Ujnu got the first position, Ashwa Azam of the Government High School Koghzi secured the second position and Muhammad Afzal of the Government High School Kojo was declared third.
